In honor of Women's History Month we have ask some of our local women owned businesses to share some of the reasons that they love their businesses, and some of the knowledge they have gained from their success over the years! This blog features The Beauty Bar on State, Two Girls and Our Trucks, and Rose and Lois!

What was the proudest moment of building your business so far?

Rose and Lois

"It is hard to beat getting to deliver almost 70 meals to healthcare professionals when this was never part of our original business plan. I started my business for personal reasons in regard to rearing my children, but it has grown to so much more than that, and we are so proud of the difference we are making in our community!"

Two Girls and Our Trucks

"Our proudest moments so far have been when we were able to hire veterans especially during a time when veterans were having a hard time finding work."

The Beauty Bar on State

"The proudest moment this far would probably be that I was able to  successfully open in the midst of a pandemic and have been able to grow my business each month since."

What has been the hardest part you can remember about building your business?

Rose & Lois

"It has been hard for me, an eternal optimist, to remain optimistic during the times that our coffee shop struggled to stay afloat during the Covid shutdown. There has been a lot for everyone to deal with emotionally during this past year, and juggling that as well as taking responsibility for my business and all the many decisions involved has not been easy."

Two Girls and Our Trucks

"The hardest part has been trying to plan and be prepared for the unexpected repairs and maintenance that comes with owning a trucking business."

The Beauty Bar on State

"The hardest part about building the business was making sure that all of my ducks were in a row with permits and certificates and bills and supplies etc. I had never lived on my own until about 1 and a half years prior to opening my doors at The Beauty Bar on State.  I felt like I had no idea what all needed done but thankful to a few significant people and a lot of planning, it has all run fluently!"

What is something you are really looking forward to in the near future to involve your business?

Rose & Lois

"We are booking up our mobile espresso bars for the 2021 wedding season, and that is pure fun for me! We are also very fortunate to be getting a liquor license, so that will add even more packages to our offerings."

Two Girls and Our Trucks

"We are really looking forward to expanding on our Freight Brokerage side of the business which directly ties into our trucking business."

The Beauty Bar on State

"I'm super excited to have a business in a small town but I think it is so easy to get lost and caught up in the drama of a smaller community. I want to change that and offer a space without it.  My commitment to myself and The Beauty Bar on States customers is to create a beautiful name for myself and the town. I’ve met so many amazing local community members already who have been so supportive and kind. I’m enjoying it so much. So I guess the thing I’m looking forward to most is the opportunity to meet more members of the community and offer a safe space for clients to be themselves."

If you had to describe to someone what the best part about your day or the best part of your week is involving your business, what would you say?

Rose & Lois

"I love getting creative and brainstorming additional ways to market our current services. There is nothing more exciting than launching private events in our drive thru, setting up igloo reservations for Valentine's weekend, networking with other small business owners to sell bouquets for Mother's Day, creating new drink menu items, scheduling family events like our Easter egg hunt complete with special appearance by the Easter Bunny, and planning customer appreciation events like coffee and canvas or latte art classes!"

Two Girls and Our Trucks

"I would say that the best part of our week, (especially during this pandemic), is being able to stay on the road and consistently pay our drivers for the work they have done."

The Beauty Bar on State

"I always knew that I wanted to work with people in some way once I was out of college. I have (still do a bit!) worked for Home Instead taking care of elderly in their homes in many different positions. I wanted to work with people directly in my career but I wanted to tie in the opportunity of working with and empowering women to be confident in themselves. The absolute best part of what I do is seeing the eyes of mamas, nurses, grandmas Etc come in sleepy and dull and be walking out beaming as they see their new look or “the brows from my teen years!” That’s my favorite part of every day."

Is there anything you'd say to someone who is thinking about starting a business?

Rose & Lois

"Do your homework, surround yourself with mentors and creative thinkers (and tune out the rest), and then go for it! There will be some very difficult initial years, but in the end you will be so glad you did it! And you will grow SO much as a person in ways that benefit you professionally as well as in your personal relationships."

Two Girls and Our Trucks

"Perseverance is the key but also get plenty of feedback from many different sources before starting."

The BeautyBar on State

"Do it! Make connections. Let go of your ego and Accept that you will make mistakes. It’s how we learn, right?? And lastly, find a community partner or friend who has experience and ask."
